Swabhumi, Kolkata India




About Swabhumi                    

Swabhumi is situated on the Eastern Metropolitan Bypass. It is located adjacent to the Subhas Sarovar Lake and opposite to the Salt Lake Stadium. It is considered to be one of the best heritage parks in India’s eastern sub region and a gateway to Indian culture and arts.

The park is situated on a natural hillock and displays a rich collection of ethnic crafts and arts. There are five main sections of the park area, namely, Shilpgram, the traditional crafts village, Santushti, the Food Park, Sambhar, the Urban Zone, Sabhaghar and Meenabazar.

A number of exhibitions also take place at Swabhumi that displays famous paintings like Gond and Madhubani paintings, designer apparels by popular Indian fashion houses and renowned crafts like Dokra. The items that are mainly exhibited are kantha stitch saris, paper products, block printed saris, handlooms, showpieces from Kalimpong, Puruliya and Krishnanagar, wrought iron furniture and many more.

The park also offers various antiques, items for interior decoration, popular Indian food and more. In fact, the Sabhaghar is specially meant for parties, banquets and conferences. Besides all these, a movie theatre is also situated at this place.
